In July was the first round of the Flash Fiction challenge. I was assigned action/adventure for a genre, a high-speed train for a location, and a calendar as an object I had to include. I had 48 hours and 1000 words.
There is a forum where the entrants can submit their submissions, and we review and critique everyone's work.
I am in awe of the talent I have read from these pieces. The work is funny, and touching. I have been moved to tears more than once.
While I have loved reading and offering feedback on other writers' work, the feedback I am getting has been invaluable.
I intend to write an entire post about receiving negative feedback, but right now I just want to gloat, because I am hiding behind a computer screen and so cannot see you shaking your head at me and judging me.
Overall, the feedback I have received has been positive. There have definitely been suggestions, which are so helpful. A couple of people have even pointed out things that I hadn't thought of. If nothing else, this content has helped me in this way.
One reader, though, was commenting on my writing style. I have given a lot of thought to different writing styles, but am not sure where I fit. Apparently, this reader thought my style was "elegant".
I am not sure that I agree with her, but I smiled to read that. As I near completion of my novel, I hope that I live up to that description. I would be very happy to be said to have an elegant writing style.
I blame the books I read for that style.
If you want to read my submission for the contest, check out your inbox! It was included in my monthly newsletter, sent out August 1, 2017.
I would love to hear your feedback, too. That is the only was I can get any better!
