A week ago I posted about traveling, and how I am in Italy right about now. This is another post coming to you that I've written in advance. Today, if my calculations are correct, we will be in Rome again, touring the Vatican and the Coliseum. I'm really looking forward to it!
In honour of my trip, last week I posted a list of travel-themed books on my TBR (to be read) list.
Today, I am posting books specifically for traveling to Italy. Perhaps they are set in Italy or inspired by Italy; regardless, they have something to do with Italy and may fuel a desire to travel there.
This memoir is about a man who travels to Verona and volunteers to answer some of the letters addressed to Juliet.
I read this book last year and reviewed it, here. I loved it. The author is also a high school English teacher, and I loved the way he interspersed descriptions of his lessons with his experiences healing from a heartache by immersing himself with Verona and Shakespeare's classic "love story".
This is another one of the books I am taking with me to read on the plane on the way to (or from) Italy. It takes place on the Amalfi Coast, and apparently is a comedic romance, perfect for a beach. Looking forward to it!
There are quite a few Shakespearean plays set in Italy. I'm including one that takes place in the city I've been looking forward to revisiting since the moment I left it more than fifteen years ago.
Lucy, a young woman, has her life all laid out for her when she goes to stay in Florence with her cousin. After meeting an array of eclectic characters, Lucy is torn between rigidity and expectations and passion and excitement and romance.
Love it or hate it, find it inspiring or over-rated, the section on Italy is definitely worth the look. The food. Oh my goodness, the food.
Need I say more?
This one was on my list for overall recommended travel reads on my TBR. It's the other one I'm bringing along to read on the trip, and I am really looking forward to it. Though I've seen the movie a couple times, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would, I have never read the book. Yet.
I have included books on this list that take place in different locations in Italy. We are seeing a lot of Italy, most of it, really. I'm looking forward to seeing how each place is unique. Unique, like each of these books on this list.
