Something kind of odd and different for this week's book review.

At my husband's annual Christmas gift exchange, he ended up with a lovely cookbook/scrapbook/memoir, which I was pretty excited about. That book is Jake Tilson's A Tale of 12 Kitchens.

The story travels through four countries and twelve kitchens, just as the title would lead you to believe.

There are many recipes throughout - including one that actually calls for freshly fallen snow!

But this is more than a cookbook. It is a story about a family, their connections and relationships that are intertwined with the meals they seek out and serve.

And the stories they tell!

Having just returned from Italy this summer, I particularly loved the sections about Italy. I want to try many of the recipes.

But the layout of the book itself is what makes this more than a cookbook. It is truly just a lovely book; more scrapbook in style than traditional cookbook.

It's a very specific type of book for a very specific reader. A cook, maybe, or someone who likes to travel, who understands the connections between family and place and food.

What's the most unique book you've looked at/read?

I'm not sure, but this one is pretty high on the list!
