Happy New Year! Recommended Reads to Ring in 2018

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

I love New Years!

A typically introspective person, there is something about reflection and looking forward into the new year that I love. I love new beginnings. The beginning of the school year, seasons, but especially New Year.

Every year after the countdown hubby and I watch When Harry Met Sally. It's one of the best movies in my opinion, with a great New Years' scene.

In celebration of the holiday, whether you're celebrating at a party or snuggled up at home, here are three great books set at New Years.

Bridget Jones' Diary

So you might not have much luck with resolutions. Read this one if you want a bit of a laugh at someone who doesn't have much luck with them either, and remind yourself that it will all work out in the end.

Middlemarch

A New Year's party highlights the cheer and celebration on the surface of a relationships and society with the disconnect and tension just beneath. Read this one before getting fancied up to go to a party, especially if you think everyone else's life seems perfect.

A Long Way Down

Four strangers choose the same roof in London to jump from on New Year's Eve. They tell their stories and connect and for contemplating suicide, it's rather funny. It's on my TBR list for sure. Read this one if you want something a little different, or if you aren't quite up to the hype of the holiday.

Bonus:

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking

Maybe you want to skip the parties and stay at home and remember there is nothing wrong with that! As an introvert myself, I get this. Read this to understand why home and sweatpants is sometimes more appealing to you than a crowd and heels, and why that is awesome.

How are you spending your New Year's Eve? Any books that I missed that you associate with the new year?
